What is AAHA Accreditation?

Four Lakes Veterinary Clinic achieved the highest level of veterinary excellence in Sept, 2018.  The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) came to our clinic and did a thorough evaluation, reviewing our practice protocols, medical equipment, facility, and client services before awarding us accreditation.

Unlike human hospitals, not all animal hospitals are required to be accredited, it is completely voluntary.  Nearly 60% of pet owners believe their pet's veterinary hospital is accredited, when it actually isn't.  Only about 12-15% of animal hospitals have gone through the accreditation evaluation process by AAHA and we are proud to call ourselves an AAHA-accredited hospital!

Accreditation by AAHA means that an animal hospital has been evaluated on approximately 900 standards of veterinary excellence.  To maintain their accreditation, hospitals undergo a rigorous on-site review by veterinary experts every three years.  State regulations vary widely - some states, including Wisconsin, don't routinely inspect animal hospitals, only going in for an inspection when a complaint has been filed by a pet owner.  AAHA accreditation is considered the standard for veterinary excellence and doesn't vary between states or Canada.

What does this mean for you and your pet?  Four Lakes will continue to provide the best possible care!  We hold ourselves to higher standards in patient care, hospital cleanliness and safety, and employee health and safety.
